Updated July 29, 2020    By CBW Staff It has been almost a year since the August fire at the Tyson meatpacking plant in Holcomb, Kan. Upon news of the fire, the cattle markets bottomed out. During this past March, the cattle markets once again hit lows as COVID-19 began to cause shelter in place laws and uncertainty in commerce. […]

Sharp price correction in wholesale meats

Much of the talk in the last few weeks has been about the resurgence in meat supplies and the sharp price correction in wholesale meat prices. That has yet to show up in the retail meat case and, if history is any guide, retail prices may stick at high levels longer than some expect. Below is a brief recap […]

Harvest just around the corner

It’ll be here soon. In just three months, the 2020 harvest will be in full swing.  The combines will be going up and down the corn and soybean fields.  Farmers will be hoping for big yields to offset the low price levels. Unfortunately, during these “dog days” of summer, the price for grains is certainly not seeing any strength.  I also don’t expect record yields in most areas of the country.  From drought conditions to excessive heat and harsh winds, I believe our yields will be well below the past few years’ levels across the United States.
