4/29/2009 1:36:00 PM 90,000 plus cattle dead in North Dakota
The Farm Service Agency in North Dakota and county emergency services are estimating more than 90,000 calves and adult cattle have died so far due to adverse weather conditions.
Additionally, an estimated 180 horses and nearly 3,000 head of other livestock have perished.
Jesse Vollmer, an assistant state veterinarian, said the weather-related deaths, particularly in cattle, resulted from problems with a bitter-cold winter, drowning deaths from flooding, and continued problems with having nowhere dry to put newborn calves.
