The 2009 International Livestock Congress-USA (ILC-USA) will be held January 13 in Denver, Colo. The program, "Global Beef - Meating the Demand" will provide beef producers, packers, retailers, students and other industry leaders perspective on how the world's largest retailers are meeting the protein demands of their consumers and, in turn, what those retailers are demanding of the suppliers of protein.
"Producers today need to know how to produce for the global market," said Clint Peck, program committee co-chairman. Peck also serves as a director of Montana Beef Quality Assurance, Montana State University.
Dr. Lowell Catlett, world-renowned futurist will set the stage with his presentation on the Globalization of the Beef Business. This will be followed by a panel discussion, Global Beef Market Drivers, during whichspeakers representing the largest food retailers in the USA, UK, Europe and Mexico will outline the supply, demand and marketing strategies used to reach their customers. Confirmed speakers are Charlie Winters, vice president of fresh meat & deli operations, Costco Wholesale and Ramon Lozano, director general of RYC Alimentos, Mexico.
The Leadership Luncheon speaker is Deborah Perkins, executive director of food & agribusiness research and advisory, Rabobank International.

New Generation Growth Technologies - Where Do They Fit? Dr. Daryl Tatum, professor of animal science, Colorado State University.

The State of Global Trade- Dr. Chuck Lambert, deputy under secretary for USDA's Marketing and Regulatory Programs.
Wrapping It All Together - A fast and lively "point-counterpoint" discussion between two top beef industry analysts, Dr. Tom Field, executive director of producer education, National Cattlemen's Beef Association and Dr. John Paterson, to end the day.

Two optional Pre-Congress tours will be offered on Monday, January 12, 2009. Tour 1 will visit a packing plant and either an ethanol plant or a feedlot. Tour 2 will visit a major retail case-ready processing plant and new product demonstration at National Cattlemen's Beef Association headquarters.
